Appointment of New President Announced
The Board of Trustees has elected Tom O’Connor as President effective June 1, 2016. Tom succeeds Al Sigl’s current President Daniel Meyers who continues to serve through the end of May.
“After a thorough and deliberate selection process led by Succession Planning Chairman William Weir, the Trustees are delighted that Thomas O’Connor will lead Al Sigl Community of Agencies as we navigate through a transformative time,” said Karen Gallina, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. “Tom has a solid understanding of the needs of our Member Agencies and our mission to improve access and inclusion for all who utilize Al Sigl’s unique spaces and services. I am confident that he is the right person to take Al Sigl forward to our shared future.”
A Rochester native, O’Connor joined Al Sigl in 2008 and was promoted to Vice-President of Operations in 2011. He recently led multiple modernization projects in the Golisano Building on the Elmwood Campus, Hale Building on the Winton Campus and new construction of the Culver Road Depot fuel facility for Medical Motor Service. O’Connor has played significant roles in the Move to Include initiative, a partnership with WXXI and the Golisano Foundation, and also with Rochester Institute of Technology and Al Sigl’s Effective Access Technologies alliance. O’Connor and his family live in Fairport, N.Y.
Al Sigl Community of Agencies President Daniel Meyers notes: “Tom O’Connor first came to Al Sigl as a volunteer over ten years ago. He joined our staff in 2008 as the Director of Marketing. He has shown strategic skills and practical know-how in taking on all of Al Sigl’s real estate portfolio and projects. As Vice President he has overseen operations touching every aspect of our work. He works well with our people inside and outside. Every team needs a terrific utility player; a lucky team has an MVP who naturally emerges as a coach and leader. Tom brings experience and passion to his new role as President. His positive energy will take Al Sigl where it needs to go to keep achieving more together.”
“I am humbled and excited to be chosen by the selection committee as the next President for this incredible organization. I am energized by our mission and look forward to continuing our collaborative work with our outstanding Member Agencies, Affiliates, neighbors and staff,” O’Connor says. “I am eager to build on the momentum and legacy Dan Meyers created and work with our Board members to lead Al Sigl’s initiatives with our terrific volunteers and supporters to provide essential services for people of all abilities in our community.”
